Super Social Club Nights

Club night on Tuesday 1/5/12 was a real success with around 20 members turning up to play.  Hopefully this will ‘kick start’ the habit for some but to help to build on this, we will hold further club nights with the bar open on Tuesday 5/6/12 and Tuesday 3/7/12.

‘Touch Tennis’ Tournament

Our inaugural tournament on Saturday 31/3/12 went very well with 18 members taking part.  Emily Carrington and Bill Drown were the leading players but everyone had great fun.  Look out for details of the second tournament.

We are inviting members to advertise goods and services that might be of interest to other members.  We’ve started this off with details of a holiday let available through Jo and Dorian Hughes.  If you’ve got something that you would like to advertise, send details to Alan at turtletob@sky.com

Annual Dinner

Our Annual Dinner on March 22nd was a great success.

We look forward to meeting you!

Latest Newsletter

Hi Everyone!

Here are just a few points of current interest.

Social Tennis
It’s good to see that numbers seem to be growing on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings and as the weather improves, maybe they will grow still further.  We are planning to have two more ‘super’ Tuesday club nights on 5/6/12 and 3/7/12 so come down and play a few games and have a drink in the bar later.  The ‘Touch Tennis’ tournament on Saturday 31/3/12 was great fun and despite the fact that there was a range of playing standards on show, the format is a real leveller and everyone had a great fun.  Once the annual tournaments are out of the way, we will run a second one in the Autumn.

Club Tournaments and Finals for 2012
Paul Stephenson has now put in the hut all the lists of entrants for the various competitions.  If when renewing your membership you did not enter but have now changed your mind, you will need to go to the club and add your name.  Andy Wilshaw is organising the four Singles competitions and he will make the draws later this month.  The preliminary rounds for the three doubles competitions will be played on the following Sundays: Men’s June 17th, Mixed June 24th and Ladies July 1st and the organisers of those days will email entrants a week or so before to confirm arrangements.

Membership Renewal
If you have received this but have not yet renewed, it’s either because you have decided not to or for some reason, the email renewal package issued by Paul Stephenson did not reach you.  If you do want to renew, contact Paul on dr@paulstephenson.freeserve.co.uk.  If you’ve decided not to renew, I hope we see you back at some point in the future and I’ll remove your name from the mailing list in the meantime.

Tickets for Wimbledon 2012
We held the ballot on Tuesday 1/5/12 at club night and the lucky members have been notified.  Two points are worth noting: Firstly, we exhausted the reserve list to place the allocation so that means that over 20 members were offered the chance of tickets.  Secondly, in drawing the names for the main and reserve lists, nine members were discounted because they were not also members of British Tennis (BT).  Now I know that I’m something of a stuck record about this, but why not join BT?  It takes a few minutes, a few clicks of the mouse and it’s free.  Remember, that if you have a family membership, everyone in the family needs their own, separate BT membership to have the chance of getting tickets in the ballot.

Clubmark
Jane Pope has now attended a Child Protection course and is ready to undertake the role of Child Protection Officer.  Hopefully, she will never have anything to do!  Derek and I have quarterly meetings with the LTA as part of the continuous assessment/review of our Clubmark status.  The latest one was on Thursday 3/5/12 and it was pleasing to hear that our club is being used as a ‘template’ for other clubs who have work to do to secure their status.  Now believe me, I am the first person to recognise that some of what we do is akin to jumping through bureaucratic hoops.  However, Clubmark status is important in that it gave us access to funding when the new courts were laid and it tells the you and the wider community that we are a club where parents can safely send their children for coaching

As always, email me at turtletob@sky.com or call me on 07795 105328 if you want to discuss any aspect of club administration. Alan Coulthard 5/5/12
